Poultry Unit

About the Unit

The Poultry Unit building is divided into two adjacent but separate areas, one for teaching and the other for research, both operating under controlled environmental conditions.

The teaching area possesses two enclosures with capacity for 80 laying hens housed on the floor, complete with height-adjustable drinkers and feeders, perches and nesting boxes.

The research area is equipped with rows of cages for laying hens, with a capacity for 150 birds. Each cage provides ad libitum access to drinking water via nipple drinkers, as well as feeders, perches, nesting boxes and nail files.

This unit also includes a separate workroom where basic procedures such as sample collection and animal handling can be carried out. It has workbenches and storage areas for consumable materials  and an adjoining storage room for additional consumables.
